Frequently Asked Questions

Explanation about the Lie Detector

What you want to have tested determines the choice of the system that best suits your situation. That’s why we provide an overview of the differences between the available testing methods. We do this because we are the only institute that can apply multiple techniques. Others typically use only the old fashioned polygraph or a very limited stress test.

Comparing Polygraph to LVA testing

We have summarized both Polygraph and LVA methods in a table so you can clearly see the differences and determine which method best fits your testing objective. When ordering a test, you can choose between LVA (Layered Voice Analysis) with various numbers of questions, or the polygraph. Memory detection is available upon request, if the situation is appropriate and meets the needed requirements.

Sharing a Lie Detector Test with Someone Else

We understand that you might want to save costs or share a test—because if you’re taking a test, the other person should too, right?

Unfortunately, that’s not possible. If you want to test two people, you will need two separate tests. Each test is individually tailored to one person, both in terms of equipment setup and the specific questions asked.

Discount on a second or third Lie Detector test

If you come together with a second or third person, you will receive a 20% discount on an identical test with the same questions scheduled for the same appointment.

Paying for your Lie Detector test in cash is possible

You will receive an invoice from us stating that the payment was made in cash. After all, we are required to keep our records in order.

You can make your cash payment or down payment at our office’s a view days prior to the test. This is necessary because we incur costs for experts and locations, which must be covered—even in the event that someone fails to show up for their test. That’s why we can only schedule a test after a (down)payment has been received.

Once we have received your full payment or deposit, we will finalize the booking of your test and confirm the appointment.

A One-Question Lie Detector test is highly unreliable

That’s why we do not offer tests with only one question. But perhaps you’re asking this because of the cost?

In that case, we can offer you our standard basic test for €395 excluding VAT. This test will tell you whether someone has done something or not. It saves you €100 compared to a fully personalized test.

You can use this efficient test to find out whether someone has cheated, stolen something, or used drugs.

You won’t be able to submit your own questions, but you’ll benefit from our proven testing method, which includes 10 reliable questions.

Lie Detector Tests available in nearly all languages

Taking a lie detector test in a language other than your native language requires extra concentration and increases stress. You must be able to understand and speak the language fluently. Basic or broken English, German, or Dutch is not sufficient.

For a test to be accurate, you should not have to think about how to formulate your answers. If your brain needs to process the language first, it may respond similarly to how it does when lying—potentially leading to a false result, even if you are telling the truth.

Interpreters and specialized equipment for lie detection

Thanks to our access to qualified interpreters and specialized equipment, we can test individuals in their native language—including Chinese, Russian, Polish, Swedish, Thai, Romanian, and many others.

This ensures the most reliable results, and it’s one of the reasons we are often asked to repeat tests conducted by other agencies—frequantly reaching a completely different and more accurate conclusion.

Your dentist or psychologist doesn’t come to your home either, right?

For the most accurate results, it’s best not to have a lie detector test conducted in your home. Home environments significantly reduce the reliability of the test. There are simply too many distractions around you, making it easy for your focus to shift—while a lie detector test requires full mental concentration.

You might also question how professional it is if someone arrives in a van with a chair and no proper testing room of their own, right?

The right equipment and conditions matter

A good test result depends not only on the equipment, but even more on:

  • The physical conditions of the room, which must support a professional testing environment
  • The expertise of the examiner (experience and proper training)
  • The preparatory work, including development of the right question set

Conditions for a home test

If you absolutely want us to come to your location, that is possible, but we apply a few important conditions:

  • We must prepare the questions in advance, so the stressful part of the test at your home is as short as possible.
  • The room must be as neutral and distraction-free as possible (like an office with white walls).
  • The space must be quiet.
  • No children may be present during the test.

Let us know if you’d like to discuss whether your location is suitable.

After ordering your Lie Detector test

As soon as you place your order, we automatically receive a notification. We will then contact you as soon as possible to schedule the date, time, and location of the test. You may also have some questions — we’ll be happy to answer those in advance.

Leading up to the day of the Lie Detector test

Start thinking carefully about which questions are most important to you. The exact wording of the questions will be determined by the test expert, but it’s essential that you are clear on what you want to have tested.

It is also important that the person taking the test does not use any drugs or sleep medication etc. within 48 hours prior to the test. This can be detected in the data and would make it impossible for us to validate the test result. Do you use medication? Be sure to discuss this with us in advance. And yes — consuming several cans of Red Bull isn’t good either.

The day of the Lie Detector test

The test expert will welcome you at the agreed location. First, we’ll have a conversation about the procedure. We will explain the equipment and the testing protocol. Together, we will review the situation and check whether your questions aligns properly with the issue. Based on this, we will finalize the question set.

The test expert ensures that the questions are valid and reliable, making them suitable for the investigation.

After that, the equipment will be set up and calibrated specifically for the person taking the test. The test will then be administered, and the test expert will immediately verify whether the recording is suitable for analysis.

The test result

After the test, you may leave immediately. Your test data will then be analyzed by two experts — including a second, completely neutral professional. Only when both experts reach the same conclusion will we draft the final report or the professional extended report, depending on what you selected.

You will receive the result within 24 hours after the test, sent to the email address provided by the client.

After receiving your test result

After receiving the result, you will have a period of two weeks to ask any follow-up questions. After that, all data will be permanently deleted in accordance with privacy regulations.

Of course, if the test is part of a criminal investigation or legal proceeding, it will not be deleted.

How does a lie detector test work?

How a lie detector test is conducted depends on the method chosen for your specific situation. The polygraph (with wires) is often not suitable in many cases.

On the day of the test, you’ll come to the agreed location.

Because we are the only investigators who can use multiple testing methods, we will first take the time to thoroughly understand your situation. Based on that, we will select the most suitable equipment to achieve the best possible result, such as:

  • Polygraph
  • LVA (Voice Stress Analysis)
  • Memory Detection
  • Expert Analysis

Choosing the right questions

In a detailed interview, we’ll discuss what’s going on and how to formulate the best questions for your case. If the person commissioning the test is not able to attend, we can also arrange the questions online in advance, as long as the test candidate is present.

Next, we will develop a precise question set that fully covers your situation and is likely to provide a clear outcome. After all, you don’t want to be left with unanswered doubts afterward, right?

Then we conduct the test

We will calibrate the selected equipment specifically to your situation. The expert will explain how the equipment works and how you should behave during the test. After that, the test will be conducted.

Lie Detection abroad

What we can do in the Netherlands, we can also do internationally. Of course, we will first discuss the conditions and investment with you, so that both you and we have a clear understanding of what to expect.

People already travel to us regularly, as we are known as a highly professional institute. Often, they fly to the Netherlands in the morning and return home the same afternoon.

If we come to you

In that case, we need to determine whether everything can be done in one day or whether we need to plan for an overnight stay or a multi-day visit.

In the Dutch Caribbean, we can work from Aruba, as we also have a location there. However, we have already provided services in many other countries, including Dubai, the Spanish islands, Thailand, and across Europe.

These factors influence the total cost of your investment. In addition to the standard test fees, the following may affect pricing:

  • Travel time per hour
  • Car or airfare costs
  • Luggage fees (depending on equipment required)
  • One or two experts involved
  • Local transportation
  • Hotel accommodation
  • Restaurant expenses

Still, sometimes it’s simply necessary to be on location and provide our support there. In that case, just get in touch with us, and we’ll discuss what you need and how we can assist.

Lie Detection for someone in detention

We work with lawyers to interview and examine individuals who are in detention. As you can imagine, this is not something that can be done casually. Because we are a highly professional organization, we are regularly granted access—with permission from the detention center’s director—to conduct tests in interrogation rooms.

Especially in Belgium, this offers a valuable solution, as lie detection is also used there by law enforcement authorities.

Expert Witnesses

In the Netherlands, we can also carry out investigations and support individuals alongside their attorney, acting as expert witnesses. In such cases, we present our findings to the court and explain how the investigation was conducted and why our results can be trusted.
